Yoga Teacher Insurance

Yoga Teacher Insurance

Yoga Alliance Professionals teacher memberships include insurance to teach yoga and meditation provided you are domiciled in either the UK or Ireland. We understand that yoga teachers have many things to think about when setting up classes and we have taken care of your insurance needs. We have used our experience to develop a group master insurance policy with Balens Ltd. Our policies are run by Balens Ltd and underwritten by Zurich Insurance Plc in the UK and Catlin Insurance Company (UK) Ltd in Ireland.

Did you know, you can be held legally liable for injury or other harm and/or financial loss alleged to have been caused to your students, or other parties? Hopefully, this will never happen to you but accidents do occur, and it doesn’t matter how qualified you are! Without insurance, you could face hefty legal bills to defend yourself and will be personally liable for any compensation payouts.

Our master policy covers you in case of any claims and includes a Legal Package.

There are two aspects to our master insurance policy, Malpractice/Professional Indemnity/Public/Products Liability and the DAS Legal Package.

Malpractice/Professional Indemnity/Public/Products Liability

The policy offers the following key features:

  • Indemnity limit of £6 million for UK members and €6 million for Irish members.
  • Unlimited claims during a policy year and no aggregate*.
  • Claims Occurring Basis with run-off cover. This means the policy will cover you for any claims which arise during the 12 month period of which you are insured. The run-off cover will allow you to be covered should a claim be made for the insured period at a later date. Meaning you’ll always be covered for work you did within the insured period.
  • Run-off cover is for an unlimited time.
  • Covered to teach abroad, for an unlimited time provided you are still domiciled in the UK (does not include trips to the USA and Canada).

*Many policies highlight the maximum number of claims in aggregate, which means the maximum insurers will pay during a policy year will be the indemnity limit, regardless of the number of claims.

Things to look out for if sourcing your own insurance

  • Indemnity limit
  • Number of claims allowed per year
  • Is aggregate included?
  • Is the policy claims made or claims occurred?
  • Is there Run-off Cover?

What is the difference between Claims Made and Claims Occurring?

A “claims made” policy will pay out for any valid claim made during the (typically 12 months) policy period, regardless of when an incident actually occurred.

A “claims occurring” policy will only pay out for incidents that arise during the (typically 12-months) policy period.

DAS Legal Package

Our master policy also Includes a separate Legal and Taxation Policy Package underwritten by DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited (DAS) and covers Criminal Defence and other costs up to £100,000. You have access to a legal advice.

What Am I insured to teach?

You are covered to teach anything which you have a certificate of completion for which relates to yoga or meditation. This includes Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga, Pregnancy Yoga etc.

The only exception here is you are not covered to teach anything which you have completed during an online training course.

Do you teach something else other than Yoga and Meditation?

Members can upgrade to include multi-therapies in their cover. We have a list of accepted therapies and we can submit requests to add new ones to this list to Balens Ltd. If you are adding therapies to your membership, we will need to see a copy of your training certificate and arrange payment from you. Please contact our friendly team if you would like more information, on 0131 659 9922 or stayintouch@yogaallianceprofessionals.org
