In October 2019 I participated in the flag ship course, Special Yoga for Special Children and Young People giving me the tools and confidence to encourage children and young people to flourish and reach their full potential through yoga therapy.
The course was developed and delivered by Jyoti Jo Manuel who has led the path in the UK for the delivery of therapeutic yoga for children and young people with special and additional needs for many years.
Special Yoga's unique and mindful practice has supported thousands of children and young people who are differently abled around the world. The comprehensive course has enabled me to assist and support children and young people with special needs, including autism, Downs Syndrome, cerebral palsy, PMLD (profound and multiple learning difficulties) and other learning, development and physical challenges.
The course is accredited by Yoga Alliance and ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network).
March 2020 - Graduated from Yoga Jo Studio , Milngavie after successfully completing 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. Completing the training has brought balance to my life creating calmness through breath, mind and physical practice. Graduating in Hatha I continue to practice a combination of Hatha and Astanga rejuvenating the body and mind.
Employed within local authority, Health and Social care, with experience of working with a number of client groups, older adults, young people and adults with a Learning Disability and complex needs with over 20 years experience.
I currently work in a day centre where I offer yoga therapy sessions to individuals who at times can find life very challenging and unsettling. Through encouraging working with the breath, teaching techniques that increase and decrease anxiety therefore assisting in providing effective coping strategies for stress. Through physical practice developing and improving flexibility, strength, balance, coordination and motor skills. Individuals become more confident developing a connection more deeply with their inner self. In addition their concentration and sense of calmness improves.
