teachers’ intensive: the inherent power of language
Start Date

The role of teacher recognises the transformative power of language. To speak in a way that taps into this power requires a conscious and considered approach. Do you take time to reflect on your words? Are your words understood in the way you intend? Does a class take into account different ways students learn? This intensive involves a collective contemplation on what is best practice in the language of teaching and why it’s important. Within the yoga tradition there are four levels of speech where words are considered potent manifestations of the Divine. From the subtlest stirring to the manifest word language is understood to be an expression of the creative power of Consciousness known as the Mother Goddess, Mātṛkā Śakti. With this understanding, a teacher can wield language like an artist her brush, where words make known subtle experience. Words can facilitate a deeply felt experience of unity - the goal of practice. This teachers’ intensive provides:- time for yoga practice;– a process to evaluate language eliciting new ways of thinking/speaking;– a method for tapping into the heart’s wisdom;– group work that explores: exclusive versus inclusive language; accessibility; trauma awareness; text led practice; the expression ‘holding space’;– a supportive space for coming together with other teachers to practice, explore, learn and share. The day includes both āsana and teaching practice, group work, journaling and dialogue. Live attendance is recommended for the best learning as group work is not recorded and is included in the intensive. Handout included. Please bring a journal + pen. For teachers and teachers in training.
