Join Erin at YogaRise Peckham to explore the art of sequencing.

Are you looking to move away from a set sequence but are unsure how?

Do you have student’s in your class you are unsure if they are getting enough out of the experience?

Are you interested to bring more philosophy into your sequencing?

The traditional movement and sequence methodology of Vinyasa Krama honours the breath as our ultimate teacher and source of wisdom. The teachings as passed down by Sri T. Krishnamacharya remind us that Vinyasa Krama, and sequencing when done well, cultivates the art of concentration and helps to suspend Citta.

Through the application of mindful breath coordinated movements, powerfully deliberate transitions (vinyasas) and intelligent sequencing (krama), Vinyasa Krama, the art of intelligently moving from one place to the next, allows for integrating the mind and body into unparalleled states of transformative union whilst being present in the space in between. In this workshop, we will explore how to develop the art of sequencing to enable students to go deeper into the dimensions of Yoga.

During this workshop we will look at how to creatively sequence asanas together to create a union between movement in the body, the breath, and the mind.

We will explore how to create a complete class for different class durations as well as designing sequences which are more inclusive to different experience level’s and needs of individual students.

We will look at how the act of observation is key and how to teach to who is in front of you.  By understanding the subtle energy body, we will examine how to create pranic expansion through sequenced asana matched with pranayama and bandhas. We will look at how the philosophy we teach can influence our sequencing and how to weave these two into harmony. Working towards a moving meditation, when sequencing is done well the student can go deep into experience of the now.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Design sequences to match different experience levels and for different class durations
  • To understand Vinyasa Krama
  • Experience prana and apana as well as grounding, expansion, balance, and rhythm in asana
  • Create sequences that reflect and weave in Yoga Philosophy
  • Understand what ‘works’ in sequencing
  • To teach to who is in front of you by developing the act of observation and confidence to change

Erin Prichard SYT

Erin Prichard has been teaching Vinyasa Yoga for over nine years in and around London.

Erin grew up in steamy Jacksonville, Florida, surfing the waves of the South Atlantic. During university, she found something to create balance in her life and to replace the waves that were 200 miles to the east. After taking her first Vinyasa Yoga class in 2000 she was instantly drawn to the way Yoga influenced her emotionally, physically, and spiritually. She found meditation to be as powerful as sitting in the sea waiting for waves, requiring the same balance and stillness of mind. At this point she couldn’t have realised that this initial practice was going to be the catalyst for profound change.

In 2004, she wanted to share her passion with others and completed her 200 hour teacher training with Discovery Yoga in St. Augustine, Fl. Later that year she relocated to her current home in London, England. She is now a SYT, Senior Yoga Teacher. She began teaching in studios, businesses, privately, in schools, and at national and international retreats. She is also the head teacher of a teacher training program at Power Yoga Co. She believes as a teacher one is always a student and continues to seek out ways to hone her practice.

Over the years she has practiced all styles of Yoga, however Ashtanga based Vinyasa along with Jivamukti are her main passion. In 2007, she became qualified to teach children yoga with Yoga Bugs, and also completed an inspiring 40 hour teacher intensive with Yoga master Richard Freeman. She has attended many workshops and trained with some the world’s most inspiring teachers such as Shiva Rea, Stewart Gilchrist, Beryl Birch, David Swenson, Matthew Sweeney, Sharron Gannon, David Life, John Scott, Manju Jois and her first teachers Shri and Stan Hubbard. She is forever grateful to her teachers and to the practise of Yoga.
