Learn how to do yoga safely and compassionately with women affected by breast cancer
Yoga can provide a new lease of life to women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis. Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women, with one in seven UK women diagnosed in their lifetime. In this experiential workshop, you will learn how breast cancer and its treatment affect the whole person - body, mind, spirit and relationships. Using the Healing the Whole Person model, you will understand the impact of cancer on all aspects of self and community and what you can do as a yoga teacher to help your students build their resilience.
The workshop will involve practice, group and small-group discussion and personal reflection.
The philosophy and practice of yoga can help women affected by breast cancer to:
befriend the body
build strength
overcome physical limitations
increase resilience
develop confidence
improve their immune system
minimise the side effects of treatment
You will learn how to offer a whole-person approach to yoga. Topics covered will be:
anatomy and physiology of cancer
breast cancer treatment
the psychological journey of cancer
the impact of cancer on relationships
yoga practices to ease treatment side-effects
