Joining Criteria & Membership Benefits

for our registered Trainers & Studios


TRAINER MEMBERSHIP

Trainers can register Foundation and Vocational Training Courses.

Foundation Courses -

- must be a minimum of 200 hours (180 contact hours)

- 90% of the total hours must be contact hours

- the principal teacher must be registered with YAP as a Senior Yoga Teacher

- the principal teacher must teach a minimum of 70% of the contact hours

PAC Courses - 

- must be a minimum of 40 hours (28 contact hours)

- these are further training courses for yoga teachers, professionals in other related fields, or simply someone who wishes to do a short course to learn about a particular style of yoga

-  these can include subjects like, kids yoga, pregnancy yoga, yin yoga, sports yoga etc

- the principal teacher must be registered with YAP either as Senior Yoga Teacher or Chartered 2 Teacher

- the principal teacher must teach a minimum of 70% of the contact hours

All Trainers -

- all courses must have their syllabus clearly on their website & profile page

- all courses are encouraged to offer post-course mentoring and further training for its graduates

- all training courses offered by the Trainer MUST meet YAP standards and be registered on the YAP website

- the correct YAP logo MUST be on the home page and training page of the website

- must have public liability insurance under company name & provide evidence of this to YAP

- all accepted students must have a minimum of 2 years of regular yoga practice unless they are attending a PAC course. For these it is expected that the students have completed a minumum of 40 hours of classes.

Benefits:

- promote ALL of your registered teacher training courses on the YAP website 

- your training course will be able to distinguish themselves from lesser quality training courses

- your training course will get a listing on the YAP website for students to search (i.e. if they are looking for training courses in your area)

- add videos & photos to your YAP profile (for example, you could add a photo album for each teacher training course you run)

- advertise for specialist teachers on the YAP website 

- offer special discounts or coupons to students who find you on your YAP profile

- write articles/ write up on your events, workshops and other things you are doing in your community for the YAP blog and increase your studio profile worldwide

- advertise and write for Amrita magazine (our annual publication)




TRAINER PLUS MEMBERSHIP


The aim of this course is to build the reputation of producing fantastic, dedicated yoga teachers.  

It is important that the student is at a sufficient level within their own practice prior to joining the training course.  The main emphasis of the training course should be to learn to teach and not to improve practice.

The student should have a minimum of 2 years consistent self-practice (5-6 days per week) before joining the course and must be proficient in all asana to be used in the course.

The trainer must also provide further training and mentoring to their graduates.



  • foundation courses must be a min of 250 hours (225 contact hours)

  • foundation courses must allocate a min of 20% of contact hours to teaching time 

  • foundation must offer trainees the opportunity for ongoing teaching practice by assisting in public classes

  • all courses must have a pass/fail assessment process with steps in place for students who fail to get up to an appropriate level and be able to be re-assessed

  • all courses must offer post-course mentoring and further training for its graduates

  • all training courses offered by the Trainer MUST meet YAP standards and be registered on the YAP website

  • all courses must have their syllabus clearly on their website & profile page

  • the correct YAP logo MUST be on the home page and training page of the website

  • must have public liability insurance under company name & provide evidence of this to YAP


In order to ensure that the student is ready to join the course and that the teacher/ student relationship is going to work then all Teacher Training Courses must apply one of the following pre-requisites.

The potential student should attend a minimum of 20 hours of regular taught classes with the course Director/ Senior Teacher.

OR

An Assessment Day is set up as part of the application process in order that the Course Director/ SYT may assess the student and vice versa.

  • Your course will be known for mentoring and supporting their trainees throughout the course that includes the opportunity to teach throughout the course

  • Your graduates will be of a solid standard both in their own practice (being properly assessed before the course starts) and their teaching since more time will be dedicated to the skills of teaching, rather than practice

  • Ability to promote your Trainer Plus accredited course to students visiting the YAP site 

  • Your training course will get a listing on the YAP website for students to search (i.e. if they are looking for training courses  in your area)

  • You can add videos & photos to your YAP profile (for example, you could add a photo album for each teacher training course you run)

  • You can advertise for specialist teachers on the YAP website 

  • You can offer special discounts or coupons to students who find you on your YAP profile

  • You can write articles/ write up on your events, workshops and other things you are doing in your community for the YAP blog and increase your studio profile worldwide

  • You can advertise and write for Amrita magazine (our annual publication)



STUDIO MEMBERSHIP


The aim is to show the general public that certain studios around the UK have met specific criteria to meet good standards.  This would include level of teaching standard from all teachers and good facilities.  This membership is to show to the general public that your studio has met a high quality and is a great accolade for marketing your space.

  • Be a physical dedicated yoga studio 

  • Display framed YAP membership certificate in a prominent location

  • Display for sale copies of Amrita Yoga Magazine

  • Ensure ALL teachers are members of YAP at all times

  • Ensure at least one Senior Yoga Teacher is teaching at the centre

  • Be a registered business or charity with registration details accessible to the public

  • Have a reception area

  • Have changing areas and toilets

  • Accept debit/credit cards

  • Use the Studio logo in all printed or video media

  • Have mats available free or for hire

  • Have an up-to- date website

  • must have public liability insurance under company name & provide evidence of this to YAP


Benefits:

  • This status can be used as a marketing tool to attract new students

  • This membership status demonstrates that your studio has met quality standards in terms of your teachers and facilities

  • This status allows you to distinguish from other studios in your area

  • You can promote ALL of your workshops, events and classes on the YAP website (including guest teachers)

  • Your studio will get a listing on the YAP website for students to search (i.e. if they are looking for studios in your area)

  • You can sell studio products from your YAP profile page

  • You can add videos & photos to your YAP profile (for example, you could add a photo album for each workshop you run)

  • You can advertise cover teachers on the YAP website

  • You can offer special discounts or coupons to students who find you on your YAP profile

  • You can write articles/ write up on your events, workshops and other things you are doing in your community for the YAP blog and increase your studio profile worldwide

  • You can advertise and write for Amrita magazine (our annual publication)
