Overview

Hello! I’m Alison, the owner of Yoga For Every Body. My day job is teaching secondary school music and I’ve worked in several Norfolk schools. I have lived here for much of my adult life and am proud to call Norfolk home. Recently, I took a break from teaching to study for a PhD and it was during this time that I trained as a yoga teacher.

Yoga For Every Body's mission is to offer individual and small group yoga classes for people of all ages, genders, and bodies. The ‘yoga bods’ in our logo and artwork consciously remove assumptions about age, gender, race, and body type, and the same ethos applies in classes. Rather than beginning with a ‘standard’ version of a pose (that may be inaccessible or painful to many people) and then offering ‘modifications’ for ‘those who can’t’, we start with what everyone in the class CAN do, and then explore other options accordingly. Remember, it is not your job, as the client, to make your body fit yoga. Instead, it is my job, as the teacher, to find an approach that fits your body.

This is one way that yoga can be a tool for social justice. On the Yoga For Every Body website and social media accounts, I also explore how race, gender, age, social class and disability are perceived in the yoga industry - and highlight yoga practitioners and teachers who work to increase access to the yoga community.

P.S. A note about financial access to yoga. Our pricing is considered carefully, to reflect both the professionalism of yoga teaching AND the desire to make yoga more accessible. But if you would like to join a class and cost is a barrier, please send me a message! Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
