Overview

Where I Teach: I currently teach at three locations: Warwick Sport, Bond's Hospital and Urban Love Warrior Yoga where I am also a studio co-owner. I also work in a freelance capacity as Move With Jude.

Training: I completed my first Yoga Teacher Training in November 2016 with Frog Lotus Yoga International. My training incorporated Vinyasa Flow, Hatha and Restorative Yoga. I am currently enrolled in Yoga Medicine's 500hr Teacher Training Programme & in YogaStream's 500hr Teacher Training (with Lara Heimann).

About My Teaching & Practice: I believe in the power of the body to balance the busy, often overwrought workings of the mind. Our physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing are often neglected due to the stresses of our working lives. I draw together my diverse background in dance, movement, theatre, literature and creative writing to offer a range of classes, one-to-ones, private sessions and workshops.

My work ebbs and flows through different yoga and movement practices, threading them together in a variety of shapes and forms to create classes and workshops. I offer both a vibrant approach to traditional material and fresh creations. With this approach to my work, I hope to fulfill the varied needs of students and prospective students.

My practice is about flow and connection, sometimes an energised Vinyasa Flow, other times a focused Slow or Gentle Flow. I cultivate the body's impulse to create motion with breath, punctuated by moments of pause and stillness. In my Move & Groove class, I take students off the beaten track fusing and interweaving yoga and other movement and fitness practices. It's all important to rest and restore the mind and body which a Restorative Yoga class provides. All of my classes have an anatomical and physiological context.

One-to-one sessions and programmes offer any combination of my teaching practice. I will invite students to specify aims and needs, tailoring sessions to suit these. Yoga and movement is there to serve the mind-body-spirit, and I strive to ensure this is precisely the case.

Who I Teach: The beauty of yoga and movement is how it can be practiced by and incorporated into the lives of all people: children, teenagers and adults. It's an infinite resource for: all of us in our day-today lives; for those with illnesses (seen and hidden), disabilities, and injuries (past and present); for trauma survivors and victims; for those coping with depression, anxiety and much more; for those facing loss and grief; for sporting professionals and athletes; for performing artists: actors, dancers, musicians and singers.

Yoga and movement offers so much to so many, be you a corporate giant, a high-flying lawyer, an outdoor labourer, a conservationist, a front-facing team member, this practice opens doors: physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual. It can provide: space within busy lives; relaxation; fun and freedom; therapy; body care, mind care and spirit care; focus; stamina and strength; mobility and flexibility; medicine; rehabilitation; fitness and exercise; and, ultimately, a guide to life.

Special Interest Areas: I pursue areas of special interest and research within yoga and movement practice. Yoga for grief is a core part of my work, creating a passage of healing for those who've experienced loss in whatever form and at any stage of life. I also focus on individuals and groups who have undergone traumatic experiences, be it abuse, neglect, conflict and so on. My practice is open to individuals affected by cancer and hidden illnesses, both the patients themselves and family and friends affected by the situation, drawing on my own personal experience and continuing curiosity in the science behind such illnesses. I use this practice to help those struggling with anxiety and depression, and mental health in a more general sense. I provide yoga for athletes and sport, tailored to the needs of individual sports with pre-activity preparation, awareness during activity, and post-activity relaxing and restoring. With a thorough background in dance, theatre and the performing arts, I delve into yoga and movement's critical role in both the life of a performance and the life of the performing artist. I also She works with individuals and groups to cultivate longevity, strength & flexibility, and open minds & bodies.

Background: I draw on my background and passion for literature, writing, philosophy and history, feeding, merging and filtering it through my physical practice and teaching. I encourage writing as a means of self-expression, understanding of the world, and heightened awareness. The act of writing as healing and therapy is a big part of my practice.

From ancient Hindu scriptures to European Romantic poetry, from Shakespeare to current day Mary Oliver, literary and philosophical texts and their language, morals, questions, ideas, philosophies and much more provide added depth and texture to the already incredible path of yoga and movement. I see this material as offering rich perspectives on our life experiences and opening the inner eye to our inner depth and growth. These texts helps us to question and witness what it means to be human: in body, in mind, in spirit.
