Overview

I started my journey teaching yoga in Hampshire where I trained under Jill Jones at the Jilandra School of Yoga. I completed my RYT-200 course, accredited by YAP in March 2017. I have been teaching a regular vinyasa flow session open to all abilities in the beautiful village of Hartley Wintney which has been a real joy. My family and I, however, are now relocating to Northamptonshire and I'm looking forward to establishing new classes in and around Oundle.

My special interests in yoga are driven by my interests off the mat. I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist for the NHS since 2009 and practise ‘third wave’ Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. It was whilst studying for my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology that I discovered yoga. At first, I was looking for a physical challenge and hoped for some increased flexibility and toning to complement my main hobby – running. However, I quickly came to realise the mental and emotional benefits of regular yoga practice whilst under the instruction of Ulrica Ask in Newcastle. Since then, I have practised various forms of yoga including Hatha, Bikram, Ashtanga, Kundalini and Power yoga. I continue to practise mindfulness-based therapies in my role as a Clinical Psychologist and my strong belief in the mind-body connection has emerged from my experiences in the therapy room and on the yoga mat.

I have three young children and practised pregnancy and postnatal yoga. The skills and techniques I learned were invaluable during labour in managing life as a busy mum, leaving me keen to help other women to experience the benefits of yoga through this life-changing transition. I completed my pre and postnatal yoga training in 2017 under Cherie Lathey at Yoga Mama in London and now offer a holistic women’s wellbeing service. Mamaste at One Yoga offers pre and postnatal yoga, mindfulness courses and 1:1 talking therapies for women’s issues, including infertility, pre and postnatal anxiety and depression and issues arising from trauma in pregnancy or childbirth.

I am also interested in various sports, and have been a runner since my mid-twenties. I have run various distances including 10km and half marathons both on and off-road. I have enjoyed regular runs with friends, run with a running club and have entered various competitive events. I found that my yoga practice was complementary to my running and improved my strength and stamina as well as maintaining my flexibility. I am particularly interested in working with runners and other sportsmen and women to enhance their performance through the yoga.

In 2016, I established my business under the name, One Yoga. I believe in one yoga for all - everyone should have the chance to experience the benefits of yoga. I endeavour to make classes accessible to those who may otherwise find it difficult to attend, due to busy lives, physical or emotional difficulties or who just believe that they are not flexible enough! Each session is tailored to every student’s needs and I foster a balance of challenging oneself with self-respect. I aim to give all my students the opportunity to experience unity of mind, body and breath.
