Overview

I have been practicing yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2002. I trained for four years to become a yoga teacher through the British Wheel of Yoga.

With a background in the Visual Arts I create imaginative sequences (vinyasa's) and meditations for my adult classes and fun yoga adventure stories for my children's classes.

My teaching approach, at 'Cannock Yoga', considers an eclectic mix of various styles of yoga and my own creative ideas from the past 20 years of practicing and teaching. With an exploration of vinyasa styles of yoga, meditation and consideration to your lifestyle I look to find a yoga practice to suit all in our classes.

In 2015 I completed a week long Intensive Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series and Techniques Course. Ashtanga Yoga continues to influence my own yoga practice. However I very much free-style with my own creative vinyasa's, hence my term 'Accessible Ashtanga' (see workshops). I continue to be trained by UK based and worldwide teachers of yoga.

I'm currently studying The Science of Teaching Yoga to Athletes through The Institute of Yoga Sports Science. I have attended many Continued Professional Development days related to many aspects of Yoga, Philosophy, Pranayama, Meditation, Yoga for Athletes and Sports people, Yoga Props to Aid Injury Recovery, Children's Yoga etc.

I also create and deliver cross-training 'Yoga for Athletes Cannock' workshops. These workshops consider your specific sport at your chosen venue. Sport specific workshops include yoga for: cyclists; runners; tennis players; footballers; hockey players; golfers; swimmers; dancers etc.

As well as working with other teachers I am very fond of self study/practice (svadhyaya). After all no-one knows you as well as you know yourself!

In 2006 I obtained Yogabugs certification and have been teaching children of all age ranges (3 year olds to sixth formers) and abilities ever since in schools and many other venues throughout Staffordshire. I create and deliver yoga adventure stories, 'Sharlene's Yoga-Little', for recreation or to compliment the national curriculum.

I also write and deliver my own yoga workshops/retreats and write articles for the yoga press (including OM Yoga & Lifestyle Magazine and Spectrum (BWY publication).
