Overview

My name is Helen and I have been teaching Yoga part time since 2016. Also a hairdresser of 30 years.

My personal practice started around 2005. First I was introduced to Hatha by my mum then moved into the world of Ashtanga Primary Series which I practiced regularly for many years. I was taught 1-1 by a guy who also helped me understand the philosophy of Yoga on a deeper level.

My interest in teaching came when my husband and myself down tools from our full time jobs and went travelling for 16months around Asia ,  New Zealand and Australia (2014-2015) I was inspired by a teacher in New Zealand. When we returned I signed up to do my 200hour with Bahia Yoga Nottingham. I qualified in 2016.

I decided I wanted to know more about the Anatomy of Yoga and how Yoga could be used in the sporting world. I’m a keen cyclist and knew the benefits of Yoga in my sport. This took me to the renowned and well respected  Sarah Ramsden Yoga for Athlete's. This transformed not only the way I taught Yoga but also my own practice. I qualified in 2017

I now do a lot of 1-1 Range of Movement and Stability Testing and Sequences for people who want another tool to help them in their chosen sport. This also crosses over to lifestyle choices. Rehabilitation and injury prevention.

I have improved my learning further on anatomy by enrolling with Andrew McGonigle (aka DrYogi) for two 1 day courses. Upper body/ Lower body(Anatomy and Physiology applied to Yoga Immersion) 2018 2019

I work at a well-being centre alongside an amazing Physiotherapist who has worked with top athletes in Golf, Rowing, Rugby, Football and Running. This gives me a world of knowledge at my fingertips and he passes people to me to do the functional movement side of things. Which I feel very honoured that he involves me with his client base.

I have also done some learning with the Yoga Nidra Network. (Total Yoga Nidra Immersion 2019) this was 80 hours of online learning. I teach workshops in this every Solstice at the studio I work at.

I have taught for Sarah Harrison for 18months at Hotpod Nottingham and done a few courses through them at head office. One teaching Rugby players and the other on Adjustments.

I am qualified in Thai Yoga Massage through Daniel Gladwell school of Massage and use this skill set when doing hands on in class environments (when allowed due to COVID) and it works great when I work 1-1 with people on testing.

The other styles of Yoga I teach are Dynamic, Vinyasa Flows and Mindful Movement. I’m not Iyenga trained but do like to work with props if required to get better alignment.

I enjoy working in the Corporate World and have done many Introductions to Yoga Events with Local companies and also worked with Interflora. I have a regular weekly class with a Architectural company in my town for the last 2 years.

I have taught a regular class to Teenagers weekly prior to COVID  and taught in a Secondary School. I have also been involved with Duke of Edinburgh both Country leading and learning a new skill set(Yoga) to a student doing the course (DBS checked)

I teach Yoga Online membership which started in the first lockdown to help people to continue with their practice. These started as a donation based payment. Now there is a set fee to those who wish to be involved. There is some content free on my YouTube channel but the membership videos are unlisted and only accessible to the paying member. I do this membership via pre recorded Videos on YouTube that they receive weekly via a link in their email.

I love what Yoga brings to the world and my life has changed dramatically over the years not just on the mat but off the mat also.

I have plans for furthering my knowledge in the future through more ongoing training. The future is exciting and you never stop learning.

Namaste

Helen
