Overview

As a child I showed signs of childhood arthritis - my joints were unusually stiff and tight and often swollen and painful when moved.  My doctor recommended YOGA so from the age of nine yoga and whole body movement exercise became part of my life.

Despite a difficult childhood with both health issues and chronic depression problems I grew up convinced that humans are meant to live happy joyful lives. I believe all the challenges we are sent are just opportunities to learn what issues we need to overcome to find that happiness.

I studied Medical Science at University, graduating with Honors, and a sound foundation of knowledge about the working of the human body and causes of illness.

I have continued to practice yoga for over 40 years now and have been teaching for over 25 years.  I practiced Iyengar Yoga in the 80s then started teaching part time in 1999 after completing a Group Exercise Instructor qualification.  I later completed a Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapy Diplomas with BSY.

I have also completed a Yoga Alliance recognised 200hr teacher training in Ashtanga Yoga and  500hr advanced teacher training in Vinyasa Yoga at Sampoorna in India.

To improve my teaching skills I completed a Diploma in Advanced fitness training including Advanced anatomy and physiology with Future Fit Training so I could better understand human movement and to ensure I teach in a safe and effective way.

Ten years ago I discovered the additional benefits of Pilates and completed an 18 month Diploma in Modern and Classical Pilates.  The training included advanced anatomy and what happens when illness and/or injury affect muscles and joints.  This training helped me develop a deeper understanding of the use of deep core muscles when developing asana technique.

Over decades of Yoga practice I found that Yoga asana helped me to get in touch with deeper emotions and meditation helped me to cope with my depression - but it did not cure them.  I trained as an NLP Practitioner and found that the teaching gave me a much better understanding of the mind than my Yoga studies had covered.  The NLP complemented Yoga well as it allows a better understanding of the things that prevent people following the Yamas and Niyamas completely - and how to release the blocks that stop them finding contentment.  I was so impressed with the effectiveness of the techniques and completed Master Practitioner Training and now incorporate the techniques into my meditation teaching and practice.

I set up my studio in 2013 to bring all these aspects of Mind and Body healing and health under one roof.
