Overview

My teacher training was with Hugh Poulton and Sarah Haden of Integrated Yoga and Mindfulness (IYM), based in Oxfordshire. Their approach is to release tension in the body and mind through forging a strong connection with the bandhas (internal locks) and breath, producing a light, effortless practice. My practice uses these principles and is also based around the Ashtanga sequence with its emphasis on healing. I include some meditation to help focus and connect with the body during the practice.

I have been influenced by the freestyle approach of Danny Paradise, whose retreats I have attended over the years, and of Sky Akasha, whose teaching demonstrates how yoga can help access deeply held emotions. I regularly attend workshops so that I can continue to expand my own knowledge and experience, including those of Reema Datta, Scott Johnson, Joey Miles, Liz Lark and Stewart Gilchrist.

In my classes I give students a chance to experience yoga as a form of self exploration as they move through the postures, paying attention to their own strengths and limitations, while building confidence and body awareness. It is suitable for all ages and abilities. I am interested in how yoga can support overall health and encourage self reliance, reduce stress and generally improve your quality of life! This is what inspires me to share it with others.
