This workshop focuses on how to align a posture from the awareness of the ‘solar’ plexus drawing upon the element of fire, tejas, which represents the power of transformation and assimilation. This element is best symbolised by the digestive fire which breaks down food into its most essential and nourishing aspect and then absorbs it. Tejas can also be translated as luminous light referring to the wisdom that arises from a fully ‘digested’ experience.

Referencing this part of the body as the ‘centre' in an āsana practice can be a powerful means of integration and strength; sensing and experiencing the whole radiating outwards from the centre. By placing awareness at the solar plexus, combined with a specific directionality of breath, a perceptual shift can occur whereby subject/object dissolves into unitive awareness; perceiver, perceived and perception merge.

We will invoke tejas as a means of drawing forth clear, integrative perception based on assimilated experience; the senses of hearing, touch and sight take in the fire element.

The practice includes a variety of poses with an emphasis on abdominal and back-bending postures. Prāṇāyāma, chanting and meditation are included as part of the workshop as well as contemplation. Please bring a journal.
