Overview

My yoga journey began in 2007 with an ex-ballet dancer who had hired a college common room. She brought a couple of heaters and mats for us all to try Bikram Yoga. I was hooked. The feeling within my muscles, whole body and mind were unlike anything I had tried. I practised as often as I could. It gave me strength, flexibility and mental clarity.

I have since found yoga to be an essential part of self-care to manage stress, emotional upheaval, injury, health and fitness. However, the most important part of my yoga journey has been self-acceptance and self-compassion. The image that faces me in the mirror throughout the practice and the need to be honest with myself about the capabilities of my mind, body and breath has given me no choice but to accept who I am. The focus on how my body and mind feel is so powerful as to override the distractions that creep in through everyday life. These aspects have been brought to me by great teachers and mentors, creating an environment where I feel able to explore what yoga means to me. I eventually trained with Fierce Grace in September 2019.
