Hayley Winter
Yoga Biomechanics and Yoga for Athletes
Hayley Winter is the founder of the Institute of Yoga Sports Science®, MSc Biomechanics, BWY Dip, E-RYT 500, is British, and lives in Brooklyn, New York. For the past 30 years, Hayley has been a yoga educator, worked as a Yoga Sports Scientist, an elite movement consultant, and lectures internationally as a specialist in her field. She is an early pioneer of online yoga education.
Twenty years ago, Hayley first started connecting yoga and its benefits to athletes and identified how yoga was the missing link in strength and conditioning training.
As a result, she spent the next ten years working with athletes and their coaches, from the English Football Association to Performance Directors with the British Olympic Association working across different sports with athletes of all ages and abilities from the playground to the podium.
During this time, she developed Yoga Sports Science® (YSS) and the Yoga Sports Coaching™ Courses, providing world-class sports-specific yoga education to yoga, healthcare, and fitness professionals.
For the past decade, Hayley and her team have been teaching yoga online, working with yoga teachers and fitness professionals who want to specialize in delivering the benefits of yoga to athletes.
Her evidence-based approach to applying yoga to athletes has bridged the gap between yoga, biomechanics, and athletic performance. The foundation of Hayley's yoga teaching is underpinned by biomechanical principles that empower yoga professionals to adapt and apply yoga to any setting.
To date, the Institute of Yoga Sports Science® has the largest research database in the world on the efficacy of yoga in sport.
