Does insurance cover me to teach online live classes?

Always check directly with your insurance provider. If you’re insured under the member policy offered through Balens, you can teach live online classes if you keep the required student records (and for Eire residents, complete a pre-class consultation).

Why This Matters

Live online teaching still carries risk, even without in-person contact. Insurers may require clear participant records (and eligibility checks) so you can evidence who attended and what safeguards were in place if there’s ever a claim.

Always check with your insurer directly.

What This Means for You

If you’re insured under the YAP policy offered through Balens

UK residents

  • Yes, you can teach live online classes if you keep a record of each student’s name and email address.

  • Keep payment/sign-up records (with name + email) for at least 7 years.

  • Exclusions: the USA and Canada are not covered. If you need cover for those countries, contact us.

Eire (Ireland) residents

  • Yes, you can teach live online classes if you:

    • keep a record of each student’s name and email address, and

    • complete a pre-class consultation with each student to assess eligibility

  • Keep payment/sign-up records (with name + email) for at least 7 years.

What You Need to Do

  1. Confirm with your insurance provider and policy wording (especially if you’re not on the Balens policy).

For those with the member master policy with Balens:

  1. For every live online class, record:

    • Student name

    • Student email

    • Payment/sign-up confirmation

  2. If you are an Eire resident, complete a pre-class consultation for each student before they join.

  3. Store your records securely for at least 7 years.

  4. If your audience includes students in the USA or Canada, contact Balens to discuss cover options.
