Am I covered to teach yoga online as a trainee?
Always check directly with your insurance provider. If you’re insured under the Yoga Pros policy offered through Balens, you can teach online within the trainee policy limits.
Why This Matters
Teaching online while training can be a valuable way to practise, but it must be done safely and within clear boundaries. The trainee policy includes extra limits to protect students and ensure you’re teaching only at an appropriate level while you qualify.
What This Means for You
If you’re on the member policy offered through Balens, you can teach yoga online as a trainee as long as you follow these trainee limitations:
-
You can teach up to 2 hours per week
-
You must have approval from your Principal Teacher before you start teaching
-
Teach only within the scope of what you have already been taught
-
Stay in regular contact with your Principal Teacher
-
Tell students in advance that you are not a fully qualified yoga teacher
-
Any fee you charge should be:
-
lower than a fully qualified teacher would charge, and
-
approved by your tutor
-
What You Need to Do
-
Confirm with your insurer directly
For those on the member policy:
-
Get approval from your Principal Teacher before you teach any online classes.
-
Plan classes only from what you’ve already been taught, and stay within that scope.
-
Keep regular check-ins with your Principal Teacher while you teach.
-
Clearly state in your class description and/or opening message that you are a trainee.
-
Keep teaching to 2 hours per week maximum.
-
If charging, agree your fee with your tutor and keep it modest.
