Overview

Whatever time you dedicate to your yoga practice, no matter how small will help you live more fully and freely.  Even if you stop practicing, the positive changes you made will continue to benefit you; and should you decide to, you can continue where you left off.  Yoga will always be there to support you when you need it.

The reality is this is what yoga does for you, even in small amounts.

I discovered yoga in my early twenties, by chance, in a gym and have been practising ever since. For me, yoga was a path to healing because it gave me the tools to cultivate a healthy relationship with my body.    I began practicing with Hamish Hendry at Astanga Yoga London (AYL) in 2007, and made my first trip to Mysore in 2010 to study Ashtanga yoga at what was then KPJAYI .  I still practice with Hamish every day and have been assisting him, and later teaching classes at AYL since 2011.  I’ve also assisted Sharath on three trips to Mysore and am an Authorized Level 2 teacher.

In February 2015, I completed a Yoga Therapy Diploma with Yoga Campus and am a registered CNHC Yoga therapist.  I’ve also completed a number of trauma sensitive yoga trainings, and am a TCTSY (Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga) Facilitator.  I work with the charity OURMALA and have taught trauma informed yoga to individuals in recovery and a yoga intervention for trauma survivors funded by the NHS.  I teach ashtanga through a trauma informed lens and am passionate about bringing these practices and conversations into the ashtanga community.

I run the evening Mysore self practice classes at Astanga Yoga London with Tom Norrington Davies, and the free Thursday Community Class.  I also work with clients privately both online and in-person.  My experience working in a therapeutic setting has informed my teaching of ashtanga and adaptation of the practice to suit specific needs  I love the personal touch of teaching both Mysore self practice, and working with clients one on one, helping people to gain the most benefit from their practice.

My Counted Led Primary Classes focus on maintaining concentration and rhythmn through the use of the Sanskrit count and the tristhana (breath, asana and drishti) whilst being fun and welcoming to all.

I’m interested in how the physical practice of yoga can create healing within our body/mind and believe in the relationship between yoga philosophy and anti-oppressive work.   As an able bodied, cis-gendered, white woman I’m aware of the privileges my identity affords me.  I’m committed to dismantling that privilege within myself and examining the ways in which I may cause harm to others.  This is a work in progress and I continue to listen and learn….

With love and gratitude to all my teachers x
