More About Universal Yoga

Charlotta has been practising yoga for over fifteen years and was trained in classical yoga techniques in India and California in the Sivananda tradition. She has also trained with Robin Munro, Mukunda Styles, Nischala Joy Devi, Dr Uma Krishnamurti and Bruce Bowditch in yoga therapy. She has trained in Scaravelli and Anusara traditions as well. She has worked with Drug Rehabilitation and in Mental Health within the NHS using Yoga Therapy.

She was given her spiritual name Chandrika by the Yoga Acharya Swami Mahadevananda in Kerala, India in year 2002 after a deep spiritual experience. Charlotta teaches locally in schools and colleges and spends most of her time running the centre.

Her classes are joyful and interspersed with yoga philosophy and wisdom.

Accredited by Yoga Alliance, UK and The Independent Yoga Network, Rebekah Abhaya and Charlotta are both Senior Yoga Teachers and Yoga Elders, with over 5000 teaching hours each. IYN accredits schools which show their adherence to yoga principles such as satya, ahimsa and swadhyaya.

We offer a full 200 hour, Yoga Alliance accredited Teacher Training each year. One weekend every month for ten months. B&B accommodation can be arranged.

This is an inclusive course, welcoming all genders, ages and abilities.

A minimum of 3 years yoga practise is necessary.

The course:
Follows the SIvananda tradition - teaching extensively ALL aspects of yoga, from asana to kirtan and philosophy, but also the more practical aspects of marketing and nurturing your business as well as yourself in the process.

This is a high quality course, with a broad base and an authentic lineage.

We take maximum 15 students so that we can maintain a high level of personal contact throughout the course.

Our youngest graduate is Robin aged 17 and our oldest is in her 60s. Our graduates came from all diferent traditions of yoga.

We bring in experts in anatomy and also Chinese medicine to look at the impact of yoga on the nadis (meridians) in the body. It is a collaborative, kind and compassionate course, with the emphasis on group work and experiential learning in a sattvic (harmonious) environment deep in the beautiful Somerset countryside. We are very proud to say that all our graduates are teaching yoga in their specifically chosen fields, several have gone on to become yoga therapists. This will be our fourth training course.

We weave yoga into every aspect of the course, from the deliciously home cooked vegetarian food, to the venue, the schedule (folowing ayurvedic principles) and the way we share the teachings and knowledge in the ancient gurukula system.

The Teachers:
Charlotta Martinus Yoga Elder, IYN, SYT YA

Rebekah Saraswati Abhaya ERYT 500 – YA
Rebekah started practising Yoga more than 17 years ago. Rebekah is also a trained kids, family and teen Yoga teacher, and has studied gentle and restorative Yoga teaching with Integral Yoga. Whilst being rooted in the Sivananda tradition and the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta Rebekah enjoys exploring and experiencing the gifts that all other traditions also bring such as Kundalini and Ashtanga Yoga.

As a Yoga teacher she works intuitively aiming to allow people to unlock their inner potential through a deep meditative practise, which allows one to enter into a place of stillness and knowing.
