I am a Hatha Yoga teacher with over 14 years experience, and I run a number of different classes in Basingstoke, Hampshire, for beginners and established practitioners of yoga.
As far as I can remember, Yoga has been a part of my life, be it through asanas, meditation, or Ayurveda. My mother was a Yoga teacher when I was in the womb, so practising has always been a comfort to me. Teaching Hatha Yoga and learning from my students is what my life is all about. From a very early age I would wake up and do 12 sun salutations followed by 15 minutes meditation, before getting ready for school. As an only child with a challenging home life I found that this gave my mind, and my day, the structure I needed.
After finishing school and leaving home, I attended Yoga classes in my early 20's, at Abundance Yoga in Cape Town, South Africa. I was deeply inspired by my teachers, Gary and Cynthia Fort, a married couple who taught in their beautiful home based studio. After many years of attending their classes and eventually becoming their friend, I asked them if they thought I could apply to teach Yoga, and they said to go for it!
I studied to teach Hatha Yoga at Ananda Kutir Ashrama, in Rondebosch, Cape Town. It was a 2 year course, which was luckily part time so that I could carry on with my day job and study at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed it and met some amazing people and was blessed enough to be taught by some very respectable swamis. After qualifying at 30 I started my own little Yoga studio, teaching in the evenings and weekends. I also did prenatal classes, and one on one's at clients' homes. I had a lot of regular students of all ages and abilities, and I was told that they enjoyed my classes because they found me to be sincere and real, and brought a sense of humour into our practise. It went very well but sadly we decided to pack up and leave South Africa to make a new life in the UK, so moved over in 2009.
After a few years of working in central London and settling into the UK system, I had my daughter and took time away from work. When she started nursery school I had the time to set up my yoga business, which started in 2016, based in Basingstoke, Hampshire, and I teach weekly group classes at Lychpit Hall, Beggarwood Cafe, Dummer Village hall, Fitness Flex Ltd in Brighton Hill, and I offer private sessions to clients too.
