Overview

I am a movement specialist with an extensive knowledge of the body and mind and experience of teaching Yoga and Pilates. I love what I do. I am passionate about teaching people of all ages and abilities about movement and learning the ability to become aware and understand their body and mind through Yoga and Pilates and gaining the wonderful benefits it has on their well being.

Having come from a dance background which I started as a mature student gaining a BA in Dance and a one-year foundation course in Dance Movement Therapy where I studied many body/ mind techniques to allow me to open, soften, maintain and use my body more efficiently in my training so I could keep up with the younger students. However, this has paid off now especially in my teaching of Yoga and Pilates as I bring these elements into my classes. Likewise, as I am getting older and through the practises, I feel I am getting more flexible in body and mind. Therefore, I bring the proof of the effectiveness of these practises to you.

So, where did the yoga and Pilates all begin? In my early twenties, on a six month trip to India, I discovered yoga and meditation and took this up more seriously after my dance training, studying both in London and India various styles of yoga from Sivananda, Astanga, Iyengar and Vinyasa Flow because of how good it made me feel and the sense of balance and grounding it gave me in certain challenging times of my life.

In 2005, I did my Yoga Teacher Training here in England with Sun Power Yoga accredited by The British Wheel of Yoga and Yoga Alliance and I did various yoga intensives with top International yoga teachers such as Shiva Rea (Vinyasa Flow Yoga) David Williams (Astanga Yoga), Sharat Arora (Iyengar Yoga) Anna Forrest (Forrest Yoga), Yogeswari (Jivamukti Yoga) and others  to inform my work and be inspired.

This then led me to study Pilates to gain a more anatomical and biomechanical understanding of the body especially of the deep postural muscles to complement my yoga teaching. However, the Pilates offered me more than I expected, deepening my insight into the body and mind and the power of our centre and reawakened the dancer in me. So, I did my Pilates Teacher Training in 2009 with Polestar Pilates UK and some workshops with Body Control Pilates, then later, I did the Polestar Pilates Studio equipment-training course. This extended my knowledge of the body from my previous study of Holistic Massage, Indian Head Massage and Chair Massage.

At present, I teach Yoga and Pilates part-time and work two days a week as an Associate Lecturer teaching mind/ body movement practices to young actors on the BA Acting for Film course at Chichester University.

Furthermore, I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Coach with the Centre for Coaching approved by the The British Psychological Society and a NLP Practitioner. I run workshops for Stress Management, Resilience and Well-Being. I am also very passionate about Personal Development and how people use their mindset. So, my coaching involves bringing people’s awareness to their thinking, behaviour and emotions and to see whether, these thoughts and behaviours are helpful or unhelpful to the person to achieving their desired goals in life and moving that person from the now, the present, the gift of life into the future, their vision.

Therefore, as a Mind Body coach,  what I bring to you is an amalgamation of my life experiences, learning and work through the body practices of Yoga and Pilates and the mind practises and techniques of Cognitive Behavioural Coaching.
