phil is well into the second decade of devoted daily yoga practice. reluctant to teach & slow to learn- he eventually came to understand that teaching was an extension of practice- in being able to share some insights and the subtle non-dual bliss of reality that can be experienced.
phil completed a 10 year apprenticeship with cat alip-douglas. by his own admission, he was “most likely the worst apprentice she has ever had”. despite this, he regularly co-teaches with her on retreats, workshops & trainings.
phil has received more transmissions in buddhist traditions than he can remember at this point. many with the great auspiciousness from HHDL. he is a very poor practitioner- still constantly grasping at a self and lacking in consistent comprehension of dependent origination.
in a previous incarnation (in this life) phil completed some formal education, including a Phd. After finishing a research position (oxford) he has committed his life to the study of yogas. Phil has completed several yoga specific trainings, the most recent being with Prof. Thurman et al.
phil has been the co-owner & managing director of sangye yoga school since 2011. He views the running of the school as an extension of practice- to be of benefit to others and a small drop in the ocean of trying to fulfil the enormity of the bodhisattva vow.
