In some yoga traditions, transmission between the teacher and student happens during asana practice through touch. Communication happens when the teacher assists the student in a pose- usually every day, until the student understands it and then the student is given another posture to add to their practice. You can still experience this way of learning in the Ashtanga Yoga tradition especially.

Learning to assist and receiving assist is an invaluable way of deepening your understanding of yoga postures.

Also, in a Vinyasa style practice where there is little opportunity to give alignment cues. Hands on assist is an effective way to help students feel the direction, energetics & alignment during practice

During this workshop, we will share with you several different ways to assist someone in their practice. This is open to teachers, trainees or practitioners with at least 2 years experience, who would like to deepen their understanding of yoga asana's. The more varied practitioners we have in the room, the better served everyone will be. But we may bring a couple of bodies along too to ensure that we get to cover a good spectrum of body types. It is not all about touch adjustment though. We will also be looking at the principles of touch and share with you some thai massage techniques and ideas that may be helpful in adjusting. We touch on reading bodies, when not to touch, verbal assists and some ideas that can support students into finding freedom in asanas. And of course, there will be plenty of practical time, where we will get to practice adjusting and receiving adjustments.
