This Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra Workshop will focus on stimulating the Chinese Medicine Winter Element Water by working on yin poses that stimulate the Kidney and Urinary Bladder meridian channels and organs in order to find balance during the coming Winter months.

The workshop will start with some simple and effective breathing techniques that we will use to form the foundation of our Yin practice and help us increase our flow of Chi/energy/prana to help release and let go of tension and to create space for new beginnings that the New Year brings us.

Yin Yoga offers a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga with postures held for longer periods of time for 3 to 5 minutes in order to improve flexibility by releasing the connective tissues of the body including the tendons, fascia, and ligaments, even joints of the bones generally in the hips, pelvis and lower spine. At the same time there is an emphasis on relaxing the muscular tissue.

The focus of this Winter Yin Workshop will be on poses that encourage circulation of Chi on the the front of the spine, back of the spine around the kidneys and hamstrings. When we deplete our energy or chi of the kidneys we feel stiffness in the lower back and can lose our zest for life.

Yin yoga can be challenging owing to holding the postures for long periods however this is how the nourishing and healing takes place and we experience deep release and letting go.

The perfect complement to dynamic (Yang) forms of yoga such as Ashtanga, and Vinyasa Flow but is also the most amazing transformative practice to enhance your mindfulness awareness in Yang styles but this highly addiictive Yin will change your focus and your practice in so many ways.

Yin aims to unblock energy channels and offers a deep release and sense of letting go. Cultivating harmony and peace, a deeper sense of balance and feelings of calmness and a sense of wellbeing.

To finish, a long yoga Nidra, one of the deepest of all mediations. An effortless relaxation. Yoga Nidra is the perfect end to this Yin Yoga deep releasing and letting go sequence relaxation, bringing incredible calmness, quietness, clarity and deep relaxation.

“Relaxation does not mean sleep. Relaxation means to be blissfully happy; it has no end. I call bliss absolute relaxation; sleep is a different matter. Sleep gives only mind and sense relaxation. Bliss relaxes the ātma, the inner self; that is why, in tantra, Yoga Nidra is the doorway to Samādhi.” (Swami Satyananda Saraswati, Yoga Nidra, pub. Bihar School of Yoga, 1976)
