My story revolves around islands and sea. Little did I know how much island life and the water would influence me. But for many years I lived unconnected to myself, following the path of years of conditioning - uni, career, marriage, wife and mother. This external striving for acknowledgement and recognition took its toll on my kidneys. How ironic that the organs linked to water and flow were screaming for me to listen, to head for the sea and STOP.
I married a Corsican - which means I married into a huge Mediterranean family on a tiny island. This is where I found the sea, my saviour, my healing escape when island family life became too much. I also discovered water's healing power of connection.
I had always practiced yoga during my 20s and 30s, mainly for physical flexibility. I’m not sure of the precise moment when I felt something missing in my life but the combination of screaming kidneys and a snapped Achilles Tendon brought everything to a grinding halt. Suddenly I could see, feel and acknowledge.
The true discovery of Self only really began in earnest when I fell upon Kundalini Yoga. What a life-changer the year-long teacher training course with I-Sky turned out to be.
A light was lit showing me the way. The world of Watsu, healing through water, came into my life effortlessly, as did the Indian Ocean and my second island of influence, Sri Lanka. I now work in partnership with Ranjan de Alwis, an Ayurvedic healthcare assistant and yoga teacher, with over 20 years experience in Ayurvedic healing, to create healing retreats in Sri Lanka throughout the year.
Immortelle yoga was born, named after the distinctive and aromatic flower that grows on the island of Corsica. It has many healing properties, particularly for the skin; it is just like the teachings of Kundalini Yoga .... everlasting. A flower that never dies, its beautiful scent surviving the seasons, going on and on....
I teach online zoom classes, studio classes at my home in the UK, and offer video classes too with ongoing email support for all subscribers. Many of my classes focus on helping women connect to their true essence. My style is soft, compassionate, creating a deep personal experience through the use of music, mantra, candlelight, essential oils and incense - touching all the senses to help guide and heal.
I give Watsu healing in a hydro pool in Nottingham, as well as on retreat in Sri Lanka. Our 10 day retreats in Sri Lanka offer complete healing of body, mind and soul, through treatments, yoga and immersion in the spiritual transformative magic of this very special island.
