Overview

The Gravity Technique is a yoga based practice designed to help yoga practitioners improve their expertise, confidence and understanding in movement.  This approach is sympathetic to the individual making it accessible to all and invites a deep self enquiry into any Yoga practice.

The Gravity Technique classes, workshops and courses are designed to improve your knowledge of anatomy and physiology whilst deconstructing habitual approaches to yoga postures in order to promote a more inclusive practice and teaching style.

We welcome everyone from complete beginners working with stiff hips & shoulders to trained Teachers looking to deepen their understanding of fascial anatomy in movement and use it to serve their clients better.

ABOUT CAZ

I started attending Ashtanga Yoga classes in 2000 to 'get fit' and to rehabilitate my core muscles after multiple abdominal surgeries as a teen.  My Scaravelli inspired Yoga Teacher found me in 2005, when the rigours of sun salutations weren't working for me anymore.  She taught me to work with my body rather than pushing and pulling it into shapes.  I was also just starting on my Yoga Teacher Training with the British Wheel of Yoga at that time.

Working in this way and on a quest to create a movement modality that was sympathetic to the individual, I went down a ten year rabbit hole into the world of fascial anatomy, manual fascial release and fascia in movement - working with some of the worlds leading teachers in the subject, even ending up in the dissection lab at one point!

My journey ended back where I began, in my passion for Yoga.  The Gravity Technique is the product of my own self study and over ten years of working with students in class, in 1-2-1 surgery prevention and workshops for Yoga Teachers.

I’ve been practicing yoga for several years with Caz and I have definitely benefited from her style of practice. I like the pace of the class and how Caz’s can explain a movement so it makes sense. It’s been great to be able to continue via zoom over this period.

After several years of teaching yoga, I wanted more in-depth understanding of anatomy and physiology, and the first workshop I attended with Caz absolutely blew my mind. It is not an under-estimation to say it revolutionised the way I teach yoga and the level to which I am now able to help my students get the most from yoga movement. Caz does an incredible job combining theory with practical and experiential learning, so I have walked out of every workshop with clear understanding but also...each time I FELT what she was talking about in my own body. Understanding that 'tight muscles' are often actually sticky fascia, how to connect the arms into the back to support the thoracic spine, the importance of the way we stand on our feet to all the aches and pains our clients feel in their knees, hips and lower back, and the way our legs connect into the deep waist to support our core strength...this understanding was not taught on my 500hr yoga teacher training course!

Carolyn has completely transformed my experience of my body and of yoga. I have learned more that i could have thought possible in the last year. I never thought this was possible especially virtually (mostly) but it is.

Caz is a naturally gifted communicator with a positive and upbeat approach. She teaches yoga clearly always explaining benefits to each move whilst closely monitoring any potential hazards. I always look forward to her informative and enjoyable classes.

Caz has literally been my saviour! In 2018, I felt severe numbness in my feet, pain in my back and down my legs. It turned out I have spondylolisthesis L4-5. Painkillers weren’t enough to mask the pain. Enter Caz! I began attending her classes weekly and gradually started feeling improvement. Caz has shown great empathy, patience and understanding. Her in-depth knowledge of anatomy is amazing. She has an innate sense of knowing how to alleviate problems. Over the pandemic, I have been following her classes on-line and will continue to practise intelligent movement. I can recommend Caz without hesitation.
