Yoga with Alpacas

Yoga with Alpacas

Alpaca yoga – Selmeston

There is a very special farm in the village of Selmeston, East Sussex which is the home of alpacas, ponies, sheep, pigs, chickens and their loving human family. Alpacas are a smaller, cuter, fluffier version of llamas and when the owners of Jijies Rest Alpaca Farm contacted me to ask if I would consider running a yoga class at their farm, I didn’t even have to hesitate. What a wonderful opportunity!

The class takes place in the alpaca’s field and is limited to ten participants to ensure a really special and therapeutic time for both the yogis and our alpaca friends. There are twenty-five alpacas at the farm, including five babies! They are all super friendly and cute and they love the bucket full of muesli we bring them. The highlight of the class is walking up towards the field and seeing our furry friends notice us and come running. They line up, observing us with their big beautiful eyes and waiting to be fed. Each time we come to the farm they get a bit more inquisitive and adventurous. We hear their soft steps around our mats, they sniff our backs when we rest in Balasana and they watch us carefully when we come up into our tree pose. As my yogis say, this is the best class around – you will leave on a high, smiling from ear to ear, happy and completely recharged - the healing power of yoga and animals!
