About the Retreat
Listed as one of the Top 10 Yoga Retreats by the Guardian, the retreat is a stunning beachfront Yoga resort with eco-friendly accommodation, in a prime location on one of Goa’s best beaches. They are renowned for their friendly team and welcoming atmosphere, which will instantly make you feel at home. Built on fine, white sand between the relics of a sacred Hindu site and the ocean, the retreat is the perfect place for relaxing and watching the sea. There is always a gentle breeze and the ocean is warm but refreshing – ideal for regular dips. Only a few minutes’ walk along the beach from shops and other fine restaurants, you can relax and ‘retreat’, but still ‘escape by foot’. The surrounding area is breath-taking and easily accessible for short trips and excursions.

We’ll be privileged to have wild dolphins as neighbours, and you can often spot these beauties during our morning practice. Those wanting to avoid the winter blues will find the retreat the ideal place to delight the senses and get into shape.

Who’s it for?
This retreat is perfect for anyone who’s looking to get away for some winter sun, to recharge their va-va-voom and to relax in paradise. All levels of practitioners are welcome and encouraged. Classes are all Open level so lots of options to tone down a posture, or take it to the next level. Every student is encouraged to work to their own ability and limits – just bring your heart and spirit!

Yoga Shalas are fully equipped with mats, bolsters, blocks and straps.

Teacher:  Deborah Berryman is known for her infectious passion for the practice and life.  Drawing on 10yrs of teaching experience, she is passionate about yoga and meditation, and sharing the benefits of a regular practice. She’s has studied and trained in many traditions and brings these together in a unique and interesting way.

She is a ‘teacher of teachers’, running national and international Retreats, Workshops and Teacher Trainings which are always insightful and great fun. She strikes that balance of touching the deeper & more profound aspects of our practice and ourselves, while rediscovering a lightness and playful side – very life affirming!

Although she’s a thoroughly modern yogi – present to the challenges of contemporary life, her practice and teaching is deeply influenced by the beautiful philosophies and great mystical teachings of Yoga’s rich history.  She teaches all levels – from beginners’ classes through to Teacher Training – and has plenty to offer everyone, regardless of age, size, gender, fitness, diet and lifestyle.

Travel:
Flights leave the UK from London Heathrow (HTW) London (LGW), Manchester (MAN), Bristol (BRS).  Sky Scanner is an excellent service that takes the hassle out of booking flights.

The retreat centre can also arrange transfers to and from the airport for you.  They will meet you at the airport (they’ll have a sign with Bamboo Retreat on it!) and bring you safely and directly to the retreat.

Getting there:  International charter flights and domestic flights land at Goa Dabolim airport – an hour’s drive from the retreat. There are direct flights from the UK, or alternatively the closest main port of entry for international airlines is Mumbai (Bombay) and from there you can get a connecting flight to Goa.

For those of you who prefer to travel in company, we recommend flying direct with Thomas Cook. They have a flight on Thursday 23rd January, flying back Monday 3rd  February (so perhaps staying at the retreat a couple of extra days!). We’ll connect everyone who is on this flight, so you can meet at either Gatwick or Goa airport and travel together.

About Patnam, South Goa: Goa is often called the ‘Pearl of the Orient’. It is full of pleasant surprises; charming little villages with colourful churches; succulent rice fields next to Hindu temples and a 100 kilometre long coastline lined with coconut palm trees. A melting pot of different cultures, Goa is shaped by its Indian and Portuguese heritage; European influence is still evident in many houses and churches built in the typical colonial style. Goa is very used to tourism and is one of the only places in India where a woman can easily travel alone and get away with wearing a short skirt or shorts, without being stared at. Patnem is a quiet beach located in south Goa, with a lovely curved bay which makes for glorious bathing. Some water sports are available here, as well as great fresh seafood, Italian, Mexican, and of course, the delicious local Goa cuisine are easily available. Patnem is one of the few beaches in Goa where you won’t be hassled by beach sellers, it is the ultimate place to relax; it couldn’t be more easy going with everything you could need or want within walkable distance. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the breath-taking culture of India – the home of Yoga – then this is the perfect way to immerse yourself among new friends.

Outings and extra activities:  We’ll be in a stunning beachfront Yoga resort in the tropical and unspoilt south of Goa, so you may be happy to just soak this up – taking some time out to just rest and recharge. At this time of year the daily temperature is around 28 degrees with guaranteed sunshine! For those of you looking for a little more activity, there’s plenty to do including scooter & bike hire, opt for a walk in the surrounding local area, have blissful massage or visit the local markets.
