Overview

Hello I’m Bev,

My first introduction to yoga was peering through a window of the community centre where I saw people sitting like statues, bending and stretching followed by more sitting and humming, and I wanted to know why the old people in the village hall could stand on their heads and I could not. I was about 10 when this thought entered my head. Now, I'm probably at the age those 'old ' people were when I first pressed my nose into that cool pane of glass. The memory of it lets me smile at my innocence and ignorance and be pleased of course that I  can now do a headstand which mesmerises my young nieces, and so the cycle continues.

My yoga practice and I have a long friendship. A  friendship that has fluctuated over the years from best friends, to not getting along , and sometime turning my back on. The of course represents my relationship with myself and my practice is my best and most truthful mirror.

My interest in what I am and how yoga can help me to be, has taken me on a journey of experiential learning and formal education. I'm a yogi, Lead Teacher on 250 and 300hr Yoga Teacher Training and I'm  a Neuromuscular Physical Therapist with a deep fascination of how our minds affects our body and ultimately it's energy.

I specialise in neuromuscular compensatory patterns that help the body to stabilise itself after injury or illness. Those same patterns shape the way we breathe, move, and feel. Strong patterns get stronger, weak patterns get weaker.

The bonus of my work is that I can teach people how to treat themselves, to understand why their bodies are lopsided or not working they way it once did. Through simple anatomy and the interconnectedness of the body and mind I help yogis and teachers to assess, realign and learn how we move. It's a simple process that can be applied to all aspects of life.

I love my work, it’s a real privilege to be able to share something so useful.

Bev is a fantastic yoga teacher and has a depth of knowlege and interest especially in the areas of movement and how our bodies function. Her passion for her work is evident and is always learning and updating her knowledge. She encourages students and clients to take charge of their own bodies (with her support) in a very gentle, assuring & encouraging and fun way! She remains a source of inspiration 3 years on since doing my YTT with the Elbowroom in 2019.

I was lucky to find Bev's activation yoga class during lockdown 2 years ago. I credit it with not needing the regular physio I had been having before. Bev is a great teacher, thorough, practical, friendly, and fun. She tailors the classes, gives modifications, and is encouraging. I'm not a yoga teacher or physiotherapist but despite this, I don't feel the odd one out. She explains things using layperson's language as well as technical terms. I love that activation yoga is a skill I can learn to maintain the health and wellbeing of my own body and I have seen considerable progress in the strength and level of pose that I am able to achieve. I especially love being able to have access to the recording of the class to help further practice during the week. In short, these classes are a highlight of my week, I look forward to them, enjoy them, and feel wonderful at the end. I'd recommend to anyone to give them a try.

Bev is the lead instructor on my yoga teacher training course. She has added immense value throughout. Her extensive knowledge in a wide range of areas has added huge breadth and depth. She has an innate ability to connect with people to make everyone feel supported. Her fun and joie de vivre brings a lightness to the course that makes it all the more enjoyable. Finally her years of experience and level of expertise really shine through in the detail of the teaching, her instruction on adjustment and her overall inspiration through her love of yoga.

Bev is an absolute joy to be around, a wealth of knowledge, lifelong leader of teaching and education and master of her craft. Having attended her Ashtanga classes and clinic and neuromuscular yoga activation classes I highly recommend her teaching and look forward to my time on the mat with this lovely soul.

I think the yoga teacher training with Bev was great and very enjoyable. It took place during Covid-19 lockdowns so meeting over Zoom was a learning experience for all, but once we got the hang of camera angles and the etiquette of on-line meetings it was almost as good as being there in person. Bev was very patient and insightful, her support at every stage of the programme was very much appreciated. Bev is very experienced and able to address the needs of each participant sensitively so that every person in the class felt they were improving their yoga practice while learning how to share their knowledge with others.
