My name is Grainne. I teach Ashtanga Iyengar based Vinyasa style of yoga. I have recently completed my teacher training in Yoga Republic in Cork, a 200hr Yoga Alliance Professionals recognized course with yoga republic founder Sackies Skalkos.
The primary focus in my class is on the relationship between the breath, body and mind as one flows through the sequence of Asanas (postures). Often considered a moving meditation. Students will glide quickly from pose to pose in an almost dance-like movement while challenging your body and mind. In my classes everyone moves through the series together as counted by the teacher. This way of practicing builds strength and stamina quickly.
The Breath is key. Each movement corresponds to an inhalation or an exhalation, bringing a powerful rhythm and grace to the practice. This practice is strong and dynamic and is designed to improve alignment, awareness, strength, flexibility, increase stamina and can relieve stress and anxiety.
My hope is that when you step off the mat in my class you feel refreshed, energized and balanced. Yoga is a personal journey of self development that can be shared collectively through breath, sweat and breaking boundaries. It inspires and empowers. It is both a science and an art.
