Does my insurance allow me to post videos on YouTube, Facebook/Instagram Live?

Check with your insurance provider first. If you’re insured under the member policy offered through Balens, you’re covered as long as the content is free, up to date, and shared with appropriate pre-class guidance.

Why This Matters

Public platforms make your content accessible to a wide range of people with different abilities and health needs. Insurers expect clear safety guidance and appropriate scope so viewers can make informed decisions before participating. Always check with your insurer directly if you are covered for this.

What This Means for You

If you’re covered under the member master policy offered through Balens, you can post videos or run live sessions on YouTube and Facebook/Instagram Live if you meet these conditions:

  • You have sufficient qualifications for the content you are teaching

  • Your content is kept up to date

  • The content is provided free of charge

  • You include relevant pre-class information, such as:

    • The level (beginner / intermediate / advanced)

    • Any need for medical approval before taking part

    • Clear contraindications (who should not participate, or who should modify)

Policy note:

  • Under the terms of the policy, this is classed as non-treatment work, and cover is provided worldwide.*

    *Excluding USA & Canada

What You Need to Do

  1. Check your insurance provider’s terms (especially if you are not on the YAP policy offered through Balens).

  2. If you are on the Balens policy, make sure your session/video is:

    • Free to access

    • Within your qualification scope

    • Current (update or replace older guidance when your teaching or standards change)

  3. Add a short pre-class safety section in the caption, description, or opening of the video covering:

    • Level (beginner/advanced)

    • Medical approval guidance (when needed)

    • Contraindications and key cautions

  4. Keep a simple log of what you posted and when, so you can evidence that content is maintained and updated.
