I’d like to run teacher training, and I’m not an SYT yet; I’ve been practising yoga for a long time.
At Yoga Alliance Professionals, we highly value our members' training hours and years of teaching experience. While you might be an expert yoga practitioner, being a great teacher requires a different skill set.
Authentic learning comes from teaching yoga classes, workshops, and retreats and dealing with different health conditions to gain new skills. You will continue to learn and grow your knowledge and experiences over time. The addition of further training is the icing on the cake.
Upon completing a qualifying foundation teacher training course (200 hours), all members start at the Yoga Teacher level and progress as they gain experience. To run teacher training courses, you must be at the Senior Yoga Teacher (SYT) level, which requires 4000 hours of teaching experience and at least eight years of teaching since completing the foundation course.
The years spent as a yoga practitioner before completing the foundation course are not considered since the skills needed for teaching differ distinctly from those required for your personal practice.
