What is a contact hour?

A contact hour refers to any learning time where a yoga teacher and student engage in live, real-time interaction.

This can be:

  • In-person classes, workshops, or teacher training sessions
  • Live online sessions via Zoom, Google Meet, or similar platforms

They are:

  • Hours dedicated to either ‘in-person’ or ‘live streaming online’
  • Breaks of any kind cannot be included as contact hours
  • Every student must complete the minimum number of contact hours for each course. Failure to do so, will mean that the lead teacher will need to arrange for the student to make up the hours (at an additional cost for the student).
  • If the student fails to attend all of the contact hours, the will fail the course.

Contact hours are essential for building strong teacher-student relationships, providing real-time feedback, and ensuring hands-on learning experiences.

For Yoga Alliance Professionals, only live interactions count as contact hours. Pre-recorded or self-paced online courses do not qualify.
