What Are The Course Requirements?

Yoga Alliance Professionals accredit 3 types of training courses: Foundation Training, Further Training and Specialist Training.

The lead teacher for any of these courses must be a Senior Yoga Teacher, which requires 8 years of teaching experience and 4,000 teaching hours (30% of the hours can be further training).

Each training course type has a unique set of criteria.

Foundation Training

  • Minimum Contact Hours: 180
  • Taught By: 70% by Senior Yoga Teacher (Min. 8 years teaching + 4,000 teaching/training hours)
  • Accredited Training Hours: Yes
  • Can be Taught Online: Yes (contact hours must be live, not pre-recorded - see additional requirements)
  • Student must have at least 2 years of practice

Further Training

  • Minimum Contact Hours: 28
  • Taught By: 70% by Senior Yoga Teacher (Min. 8 years teaching + 4,000 teaching/training hours) or Experienced Yoga Teacher (Min. 4 years teaching + 2,000 teaching/training hours)
  • Accredited Training Hours: Yes
  • Can be Taught Online: Yes (contact hours must be live, not pre-recorded)

Specialist Training

  • Minimum Total Hours: 40
  • Minimum Contact Hours: 28
  • Taught By: Senior Yoga Teacher (Min. 8 years teaching + 4,000 teaching/training hours)
  • Accredited Training Hours: Yes
  • Can be Taught Online: Yes (contact hours must be live, not pre-recorded)
