Our venue, Cherai Beach, is nestled between the backwaters and the Arabian sea, in spectacular surroundings and within easy reach of Cochin, the ancient spice trading port. We've been visiting here for so long it feels like coming back home - staff are friendly and super-helpful, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back. Yoga is twice each day - at 7am before breakfast, and again in the evening. There are opportunities to visit a local swami, watch a performance of the traditional Keralan martial arts with world class practitioners, and join in one of the many festivals held in Kerala at this time of year. Kerala is the perfect place to visit India for the first time, and if you're an old hand, then it's a great place to go exploring off the beaten track, or just sink in and enjoy traditional India daily life.
The resort is beautifully landscaped with banana trees, coconut palms, lagoons and thatched villas in charming Keralan style. Sunsets are a highlight, as we watch the sun sinking into the sea during evening meditation. The sea is warm and inviting, there are hammocks to laze in, glorious views across the backwaters to the villages and fishermen. You may be lucky enough to spot kingfishers working for their meal or even dolphins playing in the sea.
