TEACHING YOGA TO ATHLETES - ONLINE & IN-STUDIO
Open to all (teachers, yoga students + athletes)
This expert workshop shows you how best to work with the athletes in your class – including what they need and what they don’t need, led by Sarah Ramsden, yoga teacher at Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs.
Yoga is becoming the must-have, go-to practice for sports people, and a growth area for teachers / instructors.
Teaching athletes is a fast-growing area of yoga. Sports people get tight, stiff and unbalanced. They push themselves hard and take pride in not listening to their bodies. They don’t have time for something non-sport specific like yoga! But the sport takes its toll and eventually they end up at a yoga class to try and unwind all that tension, re-align themselves, stave off or recover from injuries and hopefully keep on doing the sport they love.
Working with athletes is a wonderful challenge: we have to enter their world, understand their bodies, and engage totally with their desire to run, cycle, swim, play football, climb, or whatever it is they are passionate about. This practical workshop is an intense overview of how best to work with the athletes in our classes.
You will take away for use in your classes how to:
– Understand the bio-mechanics of a sport
– Better understand what they need
– Understand what isn’t going to be good for them
– Intelligent sequencing – relevant, appropriate, accessible
– Best engage with athletes – the psychology of working with athletes
– Sequence for athletes who are really stiff and tight
As with all Sarah’s teaching the workshop will be fun, practical, real-world, hands-on with loads of small group work and Q+A. Bring your questions, thoughts, experiences and ideas.
Whether you are a yoga teacher or a sporting-yogi, this workshop will give you the tools and understanding to work confidently, safely and successfully with athletes.
Sarah will be leading her teacher-only specialist accreditation – The body athletic: teaching yoga to athletes + in sport. The course runs over five weekends from January through September 2021 at triyoga. This is the only accredited vocational yoga for sport course – accredited by Yoga Alliance Professionals.
