Overview

I moved to Bournemouth from Germany 10 years ago to study at Bournemouth university. Following this I joined an IT Marketing and Sales Company working as Account Manager. Like most Sales and Account Management roles this is a high pressure and stress job. Throughout my life I have always enjoyed keeping fit mainly by working out in the gym using both cardio and weights.

In 2009 I suffered a complex ankle injury that stopped me from my fitness regime for over a year. At this stage it was near impossible to balance on my right leg and even basic things such as wearing high heels was a challenge.

Following the final surgery I decided to give Yoga a go alongside the gym sessions in the hope of improving my ankle strength. To be honest I had low expectations and thought I would do some stretches and balancing exercises but not to be given a full body workout. After my first session I was hooked on Ashtanga Yoga. I found that my whole body was given a workout through a combination of postures [asana], breath control [pranayama] and the use of energy locks [bandhas] and discovered that I had muscles, which I had never felt in my previous gym sessions. In addition the focus on my breath and body took my mind away from anything else - something I was never able to do fully in a gym workout. And even better after 4 weeks of consistent practice I was able to balance on my right leg again! So after a few months I cancelled my gym membership and focussed solely on Ashtanga Yoga.

After joining a few one-week Yoga retreats with Zoe Lee; I decided to take my Ashtanga Yoga practice to the next level. In January 2012 I travelled to India to deepen my practice with Ajay Kumar at Sthalam8 in Mysore. It was fantastic to learn from Ajay who has been practicing since he was 10! At the same time I also completed an Ayurveda Massage course. My India journey then took me to Kerala to complete my Yoga Teacher training with Caroline Klebl.

I am now keen and determined to share my experience & knowledge with others who are looking to improve their fitness, flexibility, body shape or are simply looking to de-stress through Ashtanga Yoga and/or Ayurvedic Massage.
