Overview

I have been practising yoga for 15 years, and this year completed my 200 Hr YTT from Bristol School of Yoga, taught by Laura Gilmore and Ashley Russell.

I was drawn to the course as I felt I was at an impasse with my practice, I wanted to feel stronger, rather than more flexible, and also wanted to know more about the connection of the breath to the body, and how this can help with deepening a pose. By learning about the physiology and anatomy behind the yoga, and the beauty of good foundation, I have found a way to a safer and more enjoyable practice: 'strong steady and stable' and the course has been transformative in so many ways for me.

I have had my own experience of mental health issues surrounding anxiety, and having completed a mindfulness course, teaching yoga felt like the next logical step to understand more about the incredible benefits that yoga can bring in calming the nervous system and moving from 'fight or flight', to 'rest and digest'.

I also freelance as an Audio Book Producer, which involves working with actors in a sound studio. It's a great job, but can be sedentary, so as a result I have been using some yoga techniques, as a way to help the actors with the stamina required for the long studio sessions, for their lung control/breath work and to alleviate posture issues that occur from sitting down to record for long periods of time.

This led me to create 'Yoga Take Out', short, easily memorable sequences that people can adapt to use at home or at work, to help during stressful times or simply to relax and be kind.

I am teaching this class from November at Brave Move Studio in South Bristol and am very excited about where it might lead...I would love to see yoga being practised out and about more, like Tai Chi and Qigong in China, bringing it to the public spaces and parks of Bristol.

I am also devising a 6 week yoga course for swimmers, which I hope to teach in the new year, as I am a keen outdoor swimmer - I personally use yoga to avoid the 'rolled shoulders' you can sometimes get from lots of swimming, and to help with breath control.

I will be taking my 'aqua yoga' qualification soon, enabling me to teach yoga in shallow water, great for recovery from operations, or for people struggling with painful conditions.

I also teach beginners Hatha yoga classes or a 6 week course, and am available on the contact details here...

Look forward to meeting you soon!
