I first started yoga approximately 10 years ago as I realised that as a person who is not particularly flexible I needed to help my body. As a chartered Physiotherapist I also new that my body needed to improve and maintain strength as I got older. After trying a few of the different types of yoga I found a wonderful teacher (Heather George) and started practicing Hatha Yoga on a more regular basis.
I have been working in physiotherapy departments for 25 years and I have worked on general rehabilitation wards helping the elderly and disabled to gain more function. I currently work within the NHS rehabilitating amputees as well as supporting individuals to find physical activities that improve their health and wellbeing, and enhance their life, in a weight management service.
I decided to train as a yoga teacher as I wanted to share how Yoga had helped me physically and mentally, as it has helped me on my journey with body acceptance, so I trained with Teach Yoga in Hendon over a year long period and completed my 200hr training in September 2018. I am now working towards my British Wheel of Yoga certificate.
I believe that all bodies no matter what size, shape or functional ability can practice yoga, if they wish to, and I aim to bring my knowledge as a physiotherapist onto the Yoga mat and the knowledge that yoga has given me into my physiotherapy practice as I also continue to be a lifelong student in both areas.
I currently have a beginners class running at Ashford hospital in the Physiotherapy gym which is open to the public and any ability. If you are interested please contact me on 07980 553775.
