For me, health and wellbeing are the pillars of life and the keys to allowing one’s passage to opportunities. It is not until you lose them that you realise you have taken them for granted.
Since my introduction to yoga 18 years ago, my flexibility has improved significantly which has enabled me to enjoy and improve other aspects of my active lifestyle, including my pursuit of marathon running and my goal of being a one hundred club member.
As a holistic approach to teaching developed by Vishva-ji, Akhanda Yoga highlights the diverse toolkit of techniques and wisdom that the yoga tradition has to offer. Akhanda Yoga inspires us to practice with joy and dedication, finding the inner smile. His message is balance; yoga is discipline and surrender, effort and fun!
Akhanda Yoga perfectly complements my parallel roles as a running technique coach, personal trainer, masseuse, EFT and Reiki practitioner. By encompassing mind, body and spirit, it particularly focuses on the individual finding their inner smile and connecting with the theme of the class. Each theme comes from the yogic scriptures, spiritual texts and ties in the chants and the passage read to begin meditation.
Contentment is a true aspect of the practice. As yoga is an experimental journey, once established in posture and breathing techniques, students are guided to cultivate deeper levels of awareness. When understood and practiced holistically, yoga becomes even more beneficial and helpful in bringing harmony and balance to our lives, families and to society.
The format of the class also follows a distinct structure comprised of a mantra (chanting), pranayama (breathing techniques),asana (postures), pranayama to prepare for meditation, meditation and a mantra to finish. A well-designed sequence will create a balanced flexibility, strength and a balanced energy flow in the body. It will leave participants feeling relaxed and grounded by careful design of the class structure and theme.
