"Yoga found me", as one of my first yoga teachers say, more than 10 years ago and has become my passion since then and now is my full-time occupation after having retired from a previous career in cancer research.
I always knew that if I ever left science, which I loved, I wanted to help people look after their health and keep fit in an accessible, safe manner. To facilitate my goals I have completed several fitness qualifications including gym, personal trainer, Pilates and working with older adults. It wasn’t until 2015 that I found a suitable Yoga teacher training course that I could commit to as I was working full-time. I enrolled in a 200h teacher training with Yomala, Yogatherapies studios(300h), in Newcastle upon Tyne, and have continued with various teacher trainings both in Newcastle, London and online with Jason Crandell (500h).
Since then I have been teaching regular Yoga and Pilates classes ranging from private sessions, groups at Yogatherapies studios and at Newcastle University both with scientific researchers and at the sports centre where up to 35 students attend class. However, due to COVID19 I am currently teaching five live yoga classes online. I teach both Vinyasa Yoga and Pilates classes and sometimes use Pilates in my Yoga classes and Yoga in my Pilates classes.
I absolutely love teaching both forms of movement and like to bring a gentle emphasis on what works for each person given their body, age, flexibility, ability and state of mind in class, incorporating options for all levels. All my classes are designed to allow students to move effortlessly from one pose to another using their breath to aid each transition.
As one of the more mature teachers I can not recommend yoga and Pilates enough to maintain flexibility and strength to maintain a healthy body and mind.
My mantra for life "be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your could on fire"
