Sharmila Ramesar is a Senior Yoga Teacher accredited by the Yoga Alliance. She completed her 217-hour training in 2004, in Rishikesh, India, where she lived and trained with senior Iyengar and Hatha teachers Karin O'Bannon, Barbara Boris, Usha Devi, Swati Chanchali, Rajeev Chanchali, Sharat Arora, Pankaj Sharma and Birjoo Mehta. While living around the world she continued her learning with Tibetan monks in Nepal, Ayurvedic practitioners in India and Chinese herbalists in China, among other specialists who aided her in refining a holistic approach to teaching. Because of her interest in restorative yoga, she recently completed an additional 200-hour teacher training course with an emphasis on Yoga Therapy and Vinyasa Flow.
Sharmila teaches small group classes, larger studio drop-in classes with a specialisation in yoga for women in Beverley, Yorkshire, and is available for personalised one-on-one sessions. Her classes blend Iyengar, Hatha, and Vinyasa styles of yoga to strengthen both body and mind and create a state of balance, harmony, a deep sense of calm and connectedness, and she seeks to tailor her classes for individuals of all fitness abilities and ages.
The scope of her training and bringing up has given her a strong knowledge of each stage of life, Ayurveda, nutrition, modification in anatomy and alignment, as well as a truly refined awareness of the subtleties upon which poses are built, and her love for yoga allows her to continue to learn and share her knowledge to help people heal and empower themselves.
