I followed Sukhita Yoga Teacher Training (SYTT) with Hugh Poulton and Sarah Haden of Sukhita Yoga (formerly known as Integrated Yoga and Mindfulness, or IYM), based in Oxfordshire. Both Hugh and Sarah were hugely supportive and encouraging throughout my training, their contributions and complementary approach to yoga teaching provided instructional direction and explorative expression.
SYTT is an organic process. I was invited to tune in to sense something different, or something challenging; this represented the seed of my individual development and training as a teacher. A growth that continually requests an inwardly focused experience, of one's own energy in motion. Throughout my personal yoga journey which has included Hatha, Iyengar and Bikram, I most valued the feelings of tranquility and harmonious peace within myself as a result of my practice. This led me to investigate a mindfulness practice with more open-hearted curiosity and I found it to be so integral to Sukhita Yoga. This experience of truly feeling yoga in balance inspired my desire to share it by teaching.
Yoga lessons with me offer an approach to explore yoga postures that is fully integrated with a mindfulness practice. An opportunity to observe the interface between your flexibility and your body's limitations; an invitation to reevaluate your relationship to that limitation, and within that process, your relationship to yourself. It's an energetic yet gentle practice; following my instructions to explore your body's own balance with an expansive expressive quality. It can look quite physically demanding but it is practiced with a mental focus of soft awareness.
