Overview

Nicola has been practicing for over 20 years and began her yoga life with a Barbara Currie DVD, with a desire to learn more she began to attend classes. In London, she soon met Kamal Paul and Lesley Sheridan who mentored Nicola in Sivananda, Ashtanga, Hatha and Iyengar yoga. In 2005 Nicola undertook initial Ashtanga training with Brian Cooper and Nawajoyti of Union Yoga, Edinburgh to become a teacher.

She continued her yoga training with the British Wheel of Yoga and become a qualified Hatha teacher in 2008. Having firmly got the yoga bug, Nicola continued her Ashtanga training with Kino MacGregor and Tim Feldmann at The Miami Life Centre and was fortunate enough to attend one of their second series immersions in the US.

When possible, Nicola now studies with Joey Miles at Ashtanga Yoga Leeds and goes to London or travels to study with Hamish Hendry from Ashtanga Yoga London.

She tries to travels annually to Mysore to study with Sharath Jois. She has also studied with Sharath on his European tours, considers herself one of his students and is dedicated to his ways of teaching. Nicola is currently Sheffield's only KPJAYI Authorised teacher.

With her love of ashtanga aside, Nicola also considers herself to be a teacher of women's yoga and has been heavily influenced by her teacher Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, who she has been lucky enough to study with extensively over the years.

Having been blessed with two children, Nicola’s yoga journey lead her to train in pregnancy, baby, post natal, toddler, children’s yoga and yoga for healthy backs. She is a birth doula and is also qualified to teach baby massage and has trained in both Thai Massage and Shiatsu based pregnancy massage.

After years of meditating herself, Nicola has most recently qualified with Mindfulness UK as an integrated mindfulness & compassion teacher.  This has led her to train as a counsellor which she enjoys thoroughly.

Nicola previously taught in London and has been teaching in Sheffield for a number of years.

“My students are my greatest inspiration and I am thankful to them for their continued enthusiasm.” Nicola Harpin
