Overview

Hi there, welcome to my profile :)

I have been practising Hatha Yoga for over 40 years and was encouraged by one of my teachers to study for the British Wheel of Yoga  Teaching Diploma which I started in 2007.  During that time, I achieved Unit 1 and 2 and was almost at the end of Unit 3 when extreme pressures in my full-time job meant I could not continue.  With my professional teaching and assessing qualifications and a number of years experience in this field, together with the vast knowledge I had gained through the BWY, I agreed to take over my teacher's class when she retired in 2009.   From that point on, I have not looked back with my yoga teaching, left my full-time job and built up the classes to two a week both of which have a strong membership of over 10 attendees each session . Most members have been with me for least five years and I have still kept all of the original members who have remained with me for over 10 years. In 2017, I completed a course with the British School of Yoga and gained a distinction in an Advanced Teacher (Hatha Yoga). At last I was able to demonstrate the amount of knowledge and experience I had gained through my Hatha Yoga personal practice and my teaching and self-study. Under usual circumstances, I also ensure I attend a yoga class myself as a student as I think it is most important to keep on learning no matter how experience one becomes.  This is in addition to the numerous CPD sessions I have been able to access through a county Yoga Association who arrange updates with some famous BWY teachers, such as Paul Fox.

Inclusivity in teaching is my passion and I am dedicated to every person who joins my class being able to access the joy of yoga in all its many aspects, asana, pranayama, relaxation and meditation within their own capability.

I have been delighted to have such a wide variety of age groups in the class from people in their 40s to one lady who was 89 who until her ill health took over, attended my classes for 10 years. I felt privileged to have her in the class.

I enjoy designing my own programmes each week, with themes to gently introduce and consolidate yoga philosophy and different aims to focus on awareness of the body, ensuring I give due attention to students' physical and mental needs. The main things I can offer those attending my classes is the benefit of my practice, knowledge and experience and my love and compassion.

During this pandemic, I have been recording lessons that members can access through a private video site whenever they want and also hold Zoom meditation sessions once a week, both well attended.  Just before Christmas I was asked to deliver a 'chair yoga' session on Zoom for our local WI which seemed to go down quite well with over 20 of their members  as their 'festive' activity.

All in all, it has been a busy year and although I would rather be teaching face to face,  I am making sure I am keeping in touch with my yoga class members during this difficult time.
