Overview

I have been doing yoga since I was a young girl; originally to complement my other activities such as gymnastics, cheerleading and dance. I incorporated many of the gentle stretches and spinal twist and meditation into my classes.

Years later following a career change into the world of 'Health and Beauty', my intrigue and fascination with yoga grew stronger as I studied more anatomy and physiology. In 2000 I gained a Diploma in Holistic Health, Massage and Beauty Therapy at the Carlton Institute of Beauty Therapy, as well as becoming a BABTAC Member; concentrating my efforts on holistic and alternative healing therapies. I was able to see the strong correlation between good mental, spiritual and physical health. Yoga became the focus of my workout routine, with dance fitness classes and the gym adding variety and helping with cardiovascular endurance.

When I first tried Hot Yoga, at Ackram Hot Yoga Studios in Woking; I was floored. Quite literally. I wondered 'Where have I been hiding?' It was both a  humbling and extremely challenging experience. I realised 'just doing' yoga is not enough. 'Just getting by' doesn't allow growth. You need to push yourself. Try new asanas, strive to improve, and see results. Better balance, better strength and flexibility for a better quality of life. After I qualified as a Yoga Alliance Professional Instructor with Christine Felix 2016, I felt my yoga journey had only just begun. I began questioning myself, researching and wondering, 'where do I fit in?' I started soaking up material and information like a sponge, going to as many diverse classes and all styles of  teachers that I could find. Such as Restorative, Hatha, Vinyessa, Flow, Iyengar as well as attending workshops and mixing with like minded people.

Now I understand the art of teaching is about giving, not showing off or being able to do amazing yoga poses, but allowing your students to express themselves, and to be confident in their bodies. Eventually they want to have a go at the amazing yoga poses, in all it's various forms.

Allow your students to be their best and the star of the show. That will truly make you shine as a teacher.
