With over 33 years’ experience of practicing and teaching yoga, we’re sure many of your questions about yoga and our classes, courses and other services will be answered here.
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength, stamina and flexibility), relaxation and breathing.
The practice originated in India about 7,000 years ago, and has been adapted in other countries in a variety of ways. Yoga is now commonplace in leisure centres, health clubs, schools, hospitals and surgeries and its health benefits are well recognised.
Great for Health and Fitness
The results of dozens of scientific trials have been published on yoga and suggest that it is a safe and effective way to increase physical fitness – especially strength, flexibility and balance. There’s also evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.
Suitable for All
No matter what age, gender or level of fitness – there is a type of yoga for you – older people, not so fit, people with disabilities, children and even the superfit can all benefit.
But you don’t need to become a yoga expert, or to be super bendy, or able to get into a perfect or complete posture. Great benefits happen with regular practice anyway – no matter how inflexible you think you are!
