Overview

Phyl was born in New Zealand, also known as The Land of The Long White Cloud. Here there are more sheep than people. She always wanted to travel and managed to complete her nursing training before setting off on many adventures which would take her to 4 continents of the world.

Nursing proved to be a perfect way to finance continuing travel and to spend time living in numerous countries, her favourite continents being Africa, South America and the Middle East.

Phyl’s first encounter with yoga was with a group of friends when she was 19 years old.  It was a very uncomfortable experience as she discovered her ability to move in different directions was very limited.  However the real affair with yoga that was to last a lifetime began in India, in an Ashram on the banks of the Ganges river.

It’s hard to believe that Phyl never wanted to be a yoga teacher, and only underwent the training to stop herself jumping on the next boat or plane to somewhere more exciting.  It meant staying in one place for 2 years until the course was completed.  A wise teacher left her all his clients and yoga equipment when he decided to leave the country. The classes continued to be popular and so the yoga journey rolled on in spite of the initial resistance.

Phyl has qualified in different styles of yoga including Iyengar and Astanga. From these she has developed her own particular blend and experience.  In more recent years Swing, Hot yoga and the use of FeetUp® (a frame to support headstands) wheels & poles have been added into the blend.

Since 'Lockdown' Phyl has adapted to teaching online from her home studio & is enjoying the experience.
