Hello and Namaste, people interested in the yogic lifestyle. My name is Anju.
It was three years ago that I completed my application for teacher training, a massive shift in my role. Whilst being a part of a local community of yoga teachers, the 250 hour foundation course, with Contemporary School of Yoga (Yoga Alliance accredited), has helped and supported me to find my own style and my own study and to set up fully as an independent Yoga Teacher.
My heart’s desire is to bring yoga to the community, for anyone who wishes to experience yoga. For everyone to be able to participate, to explore and find their truth and compassion once again and hopefully not just as a physical regime but embark on a spiritual journey.
I believe whole heartedly in practicing what I preach and preaching what I practice! For me The Yoga Sutras are the sacred roots of Yoga practice that we know today, therefore, I continue to development my belief through reading, researching, self-study and study of the Bhagavad Geeta via Bhakti yoga.
Adapability - I feel confident to adapt my classes to client’s needs, whether their needs are on a physical level, balancing energies or their need is to relax mentally. I teach classroom based and home based i.e. is at a student’s home or at my place, whatever is suitable. I can teach adults as well as children, I have over twenty years of experience of working with children and parents from my previous role.
Honesty - being authentic and true, keeping yoga as it should be whilst helping people to understand how it supports us in this day and age and it does for sure 100%. We all have spiritual work to do, we realise this at different stages of our lives.
Community - this is the essence of life, whether it is within a home or on a macro scale, the Universe. We are meant to live together, to live as yogi's, to yoke. I do believe this is the future for humanity.
During my study I realised that 'Yoga' is a practice that encourages the whole being to awaken and enhance consciousness, giving access to wisdom. The 8 Limbs are perfectly organised to give us the guidance we need (with thanks to the great and wise yogis, past and present). Without Yama's (1) and Niyama's (2) we might 'half practice' Asana (3), therefore, it cannot be practiced to it's full potential until Pranayama (4) awareness is present. In order to feel Prana (our life force) we need to practice quietening our senses, Pratyahara (5), which in turn helps to find Dharana (6); what we might refer to as mindfulness. Dhyana (7), known as meditation, comes from this state of stillness which will help us to glimpse Samadhi (8); the blissful state. My wish would be for all to practice these 8 Limbs of Yoga, so change begins with 'Self'. The mindset we create for our 'Self' tends to become our 'way' of behaving whether it's to ourselves, to others or to the planet ... "When one leaf trembles, the whole bough moves" (a Chinese proverb).
For many years I have worked with and observed children and parents, which has been a great teaching. As people, we influence one another more than we realise, often resulting in, choice and decision-making becoming a passive action. This can lead to passive behaviours and mindsets - we might behave in a mindless manor which ripples out to everyone around us like a wave of mindlessness. I would like to influence a new wave of 'mindfulness'. Using "Stira, Sukham Asanam", which translated means steady, comfortable posture, I would like to support people to feel that life does not have to be difficult, stressful and unrewarding. That exploring the unexplored, the untouched and deepest kept thoughts is worthwhile. When we do this we are nurturing our soul, we discover, we learn compassion, we remember love and that we can be loved. To me this is transformational!
Namaste, Anju
